Alexander Technique in Ambleside

Book a lesson or group

Location

Individual lessons take place in Ambleside, normally at 7 Oaks Field Ambleside, Cumbria LA22 9EJ.

Book a lesson

You can book a one-to-one lesson (Face-to-face or Online) by email: janet@alexanderinambleside.co.uk

Or phone 015394 33471 – if necessary leave a clear message on voicemail, and I will get back to you. Don't forget to include your phone number!

If you haven't had a lesson before, start with a one-hour Consultation Lesson. This gives you an experience of what it's all about and the opportunity to discuss your needs and expectations. After this you can decide whether to go ahead with more.

Course of lessons

Lessons can be an hour, 45 minutes or half an hour: prices below. Although it's possible to have occasional lessons, for beginners it is advisable to start with a course of at least six. The number varies from person to person. Some find just a few weeks' lessons enough, while others choose to continue for years. It all depends on what you want to achieve, your personal history, and on your present state of health and co-ordination.

Although you will never entirely forget what you learn, it is recommended that you have follow-up 'refresher' lessons from time to time.

Cost of lessons

Standard 45 minute lessons: £45

Introductory / one hour lessons: £55

Half hour lessons: £35

Discounts are available for courses, for children & young people, and for people who have difficulty with the normal fees. Please ask. It is also possible for two people to share the Consultation Lesson (by arrangement).

What to expect in a lesson

Please wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move around easily.

Normally, for part of an individual lesson you lie down while I work on you gently with my hands. I may move your legs, head and other parts of your body - but this is always done carefully, using skills acquired through my Alexander Technique training and practice.

The other practical part of most lessons works with sitting, standing, walking and other movements. However, in the first lesson the variety of practical work may be reduced, as time is needed to explain the Technique and to identify how it will be most helpful to you.

Staying overnight in Ambleside

If you don't live in the area but would like to have two or more lessons with me, we can try to arrange this with an overnight stay. Overnight, self-contained accommodation is sometimes available here, and you may even be able to extend it into a short holiday. Please ask for details.

Groups

While the most important work usually happens one-to-one, learning in a small group can be fun, motivational and supportive. When it's available, some people find a combination of group and individual lessons is ideal.

If you are part of a group, organisation or community within travel distance of Ambleside, it may be possible to arrange an introductory workshop for you at your own location. For further details please enquire at janet@alexanderinambleside.co.uk or 015394 33471.
